V Star 1100 Air/fuel Mixture Screw
Hello friends, does anyone of you have a video or know how to adjust the air fuel mixture screw with the engine running, that they remove a spark plug and regulate and then the other. The maxmix idle mixture thumbscrew for the v star 1100 allows you to adjust the pilot mixture circuit on the fly. Handy for fine tuning changes in weather, temperature or for changes in altitude. Fits all yamaha v star 1100s By screwing the pms screw inwards (clockwise) you fill the hole and restrict the amount of fuel that get mixed into the air stream.
I've watched my good bud toolman set the a/f screws on my bike, following a valve adjustment and/or carb sync. He essentially does the procedure the same way as you outline, but the bike is on the centerstand, in his shop. How he hears when one cylinder is starting to stumble, over the roar of three well running cylinders, is beyond me. Your mixture screws are to set the air/fuel mixture at idle & for the slow speed. When adjusted properly the bike runs as it should, and you will see proper plug coloring. Set the idle down as low as it will idle and not die. Run them in until you here a difference. If its like mine itll be pretty quickly. (from the 3 turns out method). Back off until it smooths back out. The pilot screw is used to adjust the air for the idle fuel mixture on the carburetor. The factory installs a metal (brass) cap or plug over this screw.
