Why Not To Fill Oil Filter Before Installing
Some rabid oil enthusiasts would disagree. Believe it or not, there's. All the oil will just pour out when you start to screw on the horizontal oil filter. And you dont like to make a gigantic mess, do you? Let's settle this with science!
If the oil filter is empty. It's actually recommended not to. Problem with pre filling is that people pre fill it from the center. That's the clean side. Some engines have been damaged from contamination (mostly the foil seal of the oil can) that blocked the oil channel because of that. For filters that are supposed to be pre filled there's a tool that blocks the center. My hyundai gdi engine (gamma gf4d) has the oil filter mounted vertically, dome end down, and it is recommended to prefill a new filter before installation. I just did this last week and i did not find it at all difficult to do with the car on ramps while i was laying on my back.
